Drug and Substance Abuse
There is no family in Zanzibar that does not know of someone afflicted by substance abuse with heroine ranking as the top drug of choice.
NANDI is working with Substance abusers who are housed in Sober Houses a name given to Rehabilitation Centers in Zanzibar. It is this marginalized group that NANDI Zanzibar is passionate about. Women are particularly disadvantaged as they are not welcomed back to the society. They continue to be stigmatized, deprived of emotional support, making it near impossible to break this vicious circle of addition.
In a fact finding mission, NANDI discovered that in the Sober Houses they were literally abandoned; lacking basic needs such as a change of clothing and toiletries that are essential for a woman’s daily hygiene routine.
Therefore, with USD.25 you may sponsor a woman in a Sober House by providing a gift pack of Oil, Soap, tooth paste and brush, sanitary pack, 2 panties, 1 Kanga, ear buds, perfume and a visit to the local saloon for basic hair grooming. Donations in kind are also welcomed.
Volunteers with knowledge in this sector of mental health are encouraged to come and work with us. There is a high demand for Counselors at Sober Houses as they cannot as individuals, afford professional assistance. We aim to rope in Stakeholders in the hospitality to train recoveries and give them some form of employment in order to assimilate them back to the society.
