A forestation Programmes
Forest cover is fast dwindling in Zanzibar, primarily because of charcoal burning. Afforestation campaigns roping in communities and stakeholders on all levels, is imperative to stop this massive destruction.
Some of the Environmental and social issues facing Zanzibar are caused due to unsustainable land use, poverty and environmental degradation, loss of biodiversity and limited water harvesting systems.
In creating awareness of the importance of Forest Cover and highlighting the various uses of trees, NANDI Community Based Program in Zanzibar in collaboration with Stakeholders, aims to encourage behavioral change in order to stop communities from destroying forests.
We encourage homesteads, Tourism Stakeholder, Government Bodies, Schools to join our pivotal campaign Program of Adopt Two Trees to enable us make an impact.
Adopt Two Trees at USD.10.
Menstrual Hygiene Management
Zanzibar, being predominantly a Muslim Society with 99% being Muslims, issues such as Menstrual Hygiene are not spoken about due to cultural leanings. Girls’ hardships are further enhanced when poor families do not have the monetary ability to purchase sanitary towels. This occasions girls to miss school or face discomfort, ridicule or embarrassment due to mishaps occasioned by lack of sanitary towels.
Sponsor a Girl with 1 school terms Sanitary Towels Gift Pack to include underwear at USD.20
WASH Campaign
Zanzibar lacks sufficient water and with dry spells throughout most of the year, it is often that there is not sufficient water in households or school or it is not easy to access it.
NANDI working with schools, aims to advocate for behavioral change in sanitation. It strongly believes that by changing Youth perception, only then can these behaviors be directly translated into their homesteads and by extension to communities at large.
By creating awareness about water catchment methods, compost toilets, proper toilet use, hand washing programs NANDI aims to inspire and change attitudes plus create cost effective and replicable interventions that will achieve WASH advocacy.
